In the course of his work, he learns that his friend Andrei Lukich Trembovetsky, a former nobleman and White Army officer, then a desperately brave Red Army commander, is alive. He is accused of abuse of office and is under investigation. The old general rushes into battle for his friend's fate to prove his innocence...
